Mazarine Climate Launches to Tackle Water Risks Through Climate Adaptation Technology

New Venture Fund Invests in “Industry 4.0” Solutions that Support Industry & Society Adapt to Water Risk in our Changing Climate

London, March 3 2025 — Mazarine Climate, a pioneering venture capital fund backing early-stage companies addressing water-related risks, launched today, marking a step-change in the Climate Adaptation Technology (CAT) financing ecosystem.

The fund invests in entities leveraging “Industry 4.0” technologies — including IoT, AI, automation, and data analytics — to enhance resilience against floods, droughts, water contamination, and other critical water challenges.

With climate impacts accelerating, businesses and infrastructure face growing risks from water scarcity, extreme weather events, and deteriorating water quality. Mazarine Climate exclusively focuses on solutions that provide greater visibility, control, and efficiency in water risk management, ensuring industries, communities, and financial markets can adapt to emerging challenges.

“We’re excited to debut this specialized CAT fund, built around a straightforward investment thesis: back early-stage companies with technology innovations out of the Industry 4.0 toolbox that support their clients in key sectors prepare-for, adjust-to, and ultimately deal-with water-related risks in our new climate reality,” said John Robinson, General Partner at Mazarine Climate. “While much of climate finance has focused on mitigation and decarbonization, we are bridging the gap by investing in the technologies that will help industries and societies adapt to water-related disruptions.”

Mazarine Climate targets investments in high-impact sectors where water risks pose material financial and operational threats, including:

  • Linear Assets: Roads, railways, and pipelines exposed to flooding and erosion.

  • Coastal Infrastructure: Ports, harbors, and critical coastal assets affected by rising sea levels and extreme weather.

  • Finance, Insurance & Real Estate (FIRE): Industries increasingly vulnerable to water-related financial losses.

  • Power: Hydro and thermoelectric power, which face growing water supply and operational risks.

The fund leads or co-leads Seed and Series A investment rounds, investing between €500k (US$535k) and €2mn (US$2.1mn) in innovative startups that align with its adaptation-focused mission. With an open geographic scope, Mazarine Climate supports companies developing scalable solutions for global markets.
