Julie Raskin has been appointed CEO at the Waterfront Alliance, a non-profit that works to make the New York and New Jersey waterfronts resilient, accessible, and prepared for the impacts of climate change. Previously, Raskin served as Senior Advisor for Partnerships at the NYC Department of Sanitation and Executive Director of Sanitation Foundation — the department’s non-profit affiliate.

Sarah Cooley has been appointed Executive Director of Earth Science Information Partners, the community-led organization for global Earth science data professionals. Cooley brings nearly two decades of experience leading major scientific initiatives across academic, non-profit, and federal institutions.

Rowan Douglas is stepping down as the leader of Howden’s Climate Risk and Resilience team, where he served for nearly three years. Douglas previously headed up Willis Towers Watson’s Climate and Resilience Hub, and is highly active with industry groups and public-private partnerships around disaster risk financing and the insurance of climate-sensitive assets. He will remain a Senior Advisor to Howden.

Jeffrey Herd has started at the Association of State Floodplain Managers as a Senior Policy Associate. Herd previously worked at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as a Section Chief, overseeing the Dissemination, Outreach, and Training Branch of the Floodplain Management Division.

Jonathan Cook, former Senior Resilience and Climate Adaptation Advisor at USAID, has launched his own independent consulting practice focused on climate finance, adaptation, and nature-based solutions. He is actively inviting relevant opportunities.

New Roles & Promotions

  • Alexis Gazzo has been tapped to serve as Global Leader, Climate Change and Sustainability Services at EY. Gazzo takes the helm after the departure of former leader Matthew Bell, the recently appointed CEO of pure-play sustainability advisory and solutions firm Anthesis.

  • Stephanie Speck has joined the Alliance of Biodiversity International and CIAT as their Global Director of Strategic Partnerships, Engagement and Communications, where she will support their efforts in funding and delivering food and land systems science and impact. Stephanie previously led Communications and the Special Initiatives portfolio at the Green Climate Fund, focusing on increasing investment to fragile and conflict-affected settings.

  • Priscilla Cole has joined Climate X, the risk modeling and adaptation company, as a Solution Engineer. To this role she brings years of experience in climate and physical risk — with her own business Circle Risk Consulting, Earth Observation company ICEYE, and Vantage Risk Companies — into the domains of finance and asset management.

  • Kit England, a Senior Climate Adaptation Specialist at Paul Watkiss Associates, has been appointed a Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change & the Environment — part of his ongoing work at LSE’s ATTENUATE project, which is developing an Adaptation Investment Framework for the UK.

Departures

  • Greg Dusek has left the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) after nearly 15 years of service. Most recently, he held the role of Chief Scientist at the Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS), an arm of NOAA that produces coastal oceanographic and meteorological information. He was a technical co-chair on the interagency sea level rise task force and a co-author for the 2022 interagency report which provides future sea level rise scenarios for the US. Dusek was also integral to the development of the first national monthly high tide flooding model, which predicts the daily likelihood of coastal flooding at NOAA tide gauges up to a year in advance. He plans to stay in the coastal ocean space for the next stage of his career.

  • Julian Reyes has exited the Bureau of Land Management. His roles included Adaptive Management Lead, where he published the Bureau’s first climate adaptation policy. Reyes previously served as Assistant Director for Climate Services at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Biden administration, where he co-authored the first-ever National Climate Resilience Framework.

  • Alan Leung has left Macquarie Group, where he most recently held the title of Senior Vice President, Threat Intelligence and Geopolitical Risk. In this role, he advised clients in financial services and government on myriad topics, with a focus on the climate-security nexus. He is also the author of the Securing our Climate newsletter, covering analysis and opportunities in climate risk, security, and geopolitics.
