Katie Schlick has been named Massachusetts’ first statewide Heat Resilience Officer by Governor Maura Healey, making it the second state in the nation to establish a role dedicated to extreme heat. Schlick will report jointly to Climate Chief Melissa Hoffer and Department of Public Health Commissioner Robbie Goldstein, coordinating across state government and with communities to prepare for rising temperatures and reduce the public health impacts of extreme heat. She previously led the resilience portfolio at the US Climate Alliance and served as Special Assistant to the White House National Climate Advisor, where she helped coordinate the first White House Summits on Extreme Heat and Building Climate Resilient Communities.

Kate Levick has left policy think tank E3G after nearly eight years, where she most recently served as Associate Director for Finance & Resilience. She has taken on a new role as Deputy Executive Director and Director of Systemic Resilience at Earth Capital Nexus@LSE, a research initiative led by Professor Nicola Ranger at the London School of Economics, hosted by the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment and the Global School of Sustainability, where she will lead work on corporates, financial institutions, and value chains. E3G's Finance & Resilience team will now be led by Jurei Yada as the new Associate Director for Finance & Resilience.

Departures

Mathew Sanders has left The Pew Charitable Trusts after six years, serving most recently as Senior Officer, Disaster Resilience Policy. During his tenure, Sanders helped broaden Pew’s flooding-focused work into a multi-hazard approach spanning wildfire, extreme heat, and drought, advanced resilience policy in multiple states, and built the State Resilience Planning Group as a national forum for collaboration. He also launched Weathering Change, Pew's disaster resilience newsletter.

Paula Pagniez has left Howden Group Holdings, where she served as Executive Director, Head of Americas and Co-Lead of Agriculture & Nature within the Climate Risk and Resilience practice since 2023. Pagniez previously served on FEMA’s National Advisory Council and as a Global Board Director for the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction’s ARISE private sector network.

Systemiq has shut down its US operations, ending the roles of co-founders Tucker Van Aken, Senior Director and Co-Lead of Systemiq North America, and Dee Yang, Partner and Head of the US Office. The pair had co-founded the firm’s first US office in 2025, working with organizations across North America on system-level change and resilience financing.

New Roles & Promotions

  • De Rui Wong has been appointed Head of Sustainability at Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC, leading its Sustainability Office, which conducts sustainability-related investment research and develops strategies to address sustainability issues affecting the firm's portfolio. Wong joined GIC in 2019 and has served in the Sustainability Office since its 2022 launch; he previously worked at GIC from 2010 to 2017 as a macro and equity analyst.

  • Sharmala Naidoo has joined adaptation-focused investment business Morphosis as Associate Director. She began her career in South Africa's public service working on international finance and economic policy, including engagement with the G20, IMF, World Bank, and OECD, and has since held regional leadership and technical roles at the Global Green Growth Institute, Tetra Tech, and Mott MacDonald.

  • Chiara Zahn has been named Program Manager at DSR & Partners — The Climate Adaptation Advisors, after building the Adaptation Exchange, a cross-sector platform bringing together more than 25 corporates, insurers, financial institutions, and solution providers to move corporate climate adaptation from awareness to action.

  • Pierre Buisson has been promoted to Head of Weather & Agro at Munich Re, based in Zurich, where he will work with clients across Europe to help them understand, manage, and hedge weather-related risks. Buisson has been with the reinsurer for five years, most recently as Agro & Weather Senior Structurer, and previously worked at Axpo Solutions AG, where he served as Head of Models & Core Markets and, earlier, as a Senior Analyst and Data Scientist.

  • Owen Meaney has joined Lockton as US Parametric Leader within its Alternative Risk Solutions practice, part of the broker’s continued build-out of its parametric insurance specialism. Meaney joins from Descartes Underwriting, where he spent more than three years, most recently as AVP of Business Development, and previously worked at USI Insurance Services and Marsh.

  • Bradley Dean has joined Chubb as AVP for Community Resilience, where he will focus on advancing policy, innovation, and community partnerships to strengthen resilience, including work to quantify the benefits of resilience investments in reducing risk and supporting recovery.
