Senator Markwayne Mullin was confirmed as the new head of the Department of Homeland Security by the US Senate on March 23. The cabinet position has oversight of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the country’s premier disaster response unit. Mullin had served as US Senator for Oklahoma from 2023.

The UK Climate Change Committee announced three new appointments: Laura Díaz Anadón (Professor of Climate Change Policy at the University of Cambridge), Emily Norton (Chair of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board and a trustee at the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association), and Andrew Jordan (Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research at the University of East Anglia). The independent, statutory body advises the UK government on its climate mitigation and adaptation targets and reports progress to parliament.

Sindhu Krishna has been tapped as UK Head of Sustainability at insurance broker and risk intelligence company Aon. Krishna previously worked as Chief Sustainable Investment Officer at financial services Phoenix Group.

Daniel Schmitz-Remberg has founded the Adaptation Exchange, an initiative for bringing together corporates, financial institutions, insurers, innovators, and experts to accelerate corporate climate adaptation and resilience. New Roles & Promotions

  • Zach Bruick has been tapped as Director of Catastrophic Risk Strategy for Pano AI, the San Francisco-based wildfire mitigation technology company. He joins from a six-year stint at McKinsey, where he most recently served as engagement manager for clients in the financial services and public sectors on physical climate risk topics.

  • Kate Boicourt has been promoted to New York State Director at the Environmental Defense Fund. She has served with the organization since 2021, most recently as Director for Climate Resilient Coasts and Watersheds.

  • Kara Reeve has been appointed Branch Chief for the Floodplains, Wetlands, and Groundwater Branch at the District of Columbia Department of Energy and Environment, where she oversees flood resilience and risk-reduction initiatives, including the implementation of DC's Flood Hazard rules — which were recently updated to ensure that the District's buildings and residents are more resilient to increased climate-driven flood risk. Reeve was previously an adaptation and resilience advisor at USAID.

  • Sharai Lewis-Gruss has been appointed Director of Community Resilience at Brizaga, a Florida-based consultancy focused on the impacts of rising seas, more frequent flooding, and environmental change on property, infrastructure, and local economies. Lewis-Gruss previously served as Managing Partner at Two Degrees Adapt, which merged with Brizaga earlier this year. Co-founder of Two Degrees Adapt, Brian Smoliak, joins Brizaga as Senior Scientist.

  • Samuel Lloyd Brown has joined non-profit NatureFinance as a Senior Program Manager, where he aims to work on climate and disaster risk solutions. He moves from CelsiusPro Group, an insurance technology company focused on parametric solutions.

  • Ioana Bouvier has joined the University of Augsburg’s Center for Climate Resilience as a scientist and project leader for the Foresight project — with a focus on resilient adaptation and land use change. Previous positions include consulting for the UN Convention to Combat Desertification and serving as Senior Spatial Data Science Advisor at USAID.

  • Manmeet Singh has moved from BlackRock to ING to serve as a Financial Risk Specialist — ESG Risk & Analytics. He will focus on integrating ESG risks with credit risk at the Dutch lender.
